Description
The barn at Herne Farmhouse is a threshing and storage barn dating from the mid-18th century. It is timber framed with weatherboarded walls and a corrugated metal roof. The structure consists of three bays, featuring a central half-nipped extension on the north side, which lacks a cartshed opening and may have been built slightly later than the main bays. There is a cart opening on the south side. The tie beams are supported by straight braces from the wall posts, some of which are jowled. The barn includes collars and angled queen struts to the principals, along with original common rafters, wall studs, wind braces, and tension braces. The eastmost bay has been floored in the 20th century, and there is a weatherboard lean-to of 20th-century date on the north elevation.
