Description
Little Ion Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century. It features colourwashed roughcast over a timber frame, with the ground floor rebuilt in the 19th century using red brick. The roof is covered with clay tiles. The building has an H-plan layout and stands two storeys high, with the right-hand cross-wing being lower than the other sections. The left-hand cross-wing includes a four-light casement window with glazing bars on the ground floor and a three-light casement on the first floor. The right-hand cross-wing has a three-light casement on the ground floor and a two-light casement on the first floor.
The central block is notable for its substantial external chimney stack, which is built in three stages. The lowest stage is made of coursed ironstone rubble, while the upper sections are in red brick featuring tumbled-in brickwork and a pair of diagonal shafts. To the left of the chimney is a ground floor lean-to addition with a 20th-century door, above which are two 2-light casements on the first floor. Most of the windows are from the 20th century. There is a red brick integral stack on the left-hand wall of the right-hand cross-wing, and a multiple ridge stack on the left-hand cross-wing, which is partly made of original brick and partly rebuilt in yellow brick, featuring moulded octagonal shafts.
