Description
No. 276 on The Green is an 18th-century house made of red brick with an old clay tile roof. It has a two-room plan and stands two storeys tall, with a single-storey block that projects from the rear. The front features two 2-light casement windows with glazing bars on each floor, with the ground floor windows set under cambered heads. There is a central front door that is part glazed and framed in a moulded surround, topped with a bracketed gabled hood. The gable ends have red brick coping and integral stacks made of red brick. There is a brick band at the eaves level on the gable ends. The rear block, which is connected to the front block by a conservatory, has casement windows and also features brick coping and a brick band at the eaves level on the gable ends. This building served as a village school and the schoolmaster's house during part of the 18th century and early 19th century, as documented in various records at the Bedfordshire Record Office.
