Description

Whitegates is a house that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with a front block added in the 18th century. It features colour washed rough cast over a timber frame and has an old clay tile roof. The building is designed in a T-plan, with a later block added to the gable end of the cross-wing, which runs parallel to the main block. The house has two storeys and mainly consists of leaded casements, along with some 2-light horizontal sashes with glazing bars on the southwest elevations. There are red brick external stacks on both gable ends of the 18th-century block, and a red brick double ridge stack on the main wing of the earlier building. Additionally, there is a lean-to pantiled addition to the cross-wing, which fills the space between the two parallel blocks.
