Description
No. 21 High Road is a house dating from the early to mid 18th century. It is timber-framed and was refronted in pebbledash in the 20th century, featuring a tiled roof with end brick stacks. The building has one and a half storeys and two and a half bays, with a staircase located in the central half bay. There are two 19th-century casement windows, gabled dormers in the attic, and cambered heads above the ground floor windows. The central entrance has a cambered doorcase with a panelled door. Inside, the house has an exposed frame with a substantial axial beam on the ground floor and exposed floor joists. The partitions on either side of the staircase also have exposed frames extending from the ground floor to the roof. The fireplace in the north gable has been blocked but still features a wide opening and includes an adjoining red brick bread oven.
