Description

This is an 18th-century courtyard group of farm buildings that has been converted into cottages at 1-5 Mill Green. Numbers 1 and 3 are constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a pantile roof and stone gable copings. They have three bays and red brick chimney stacks, one at each gable end and one in the right-hand side of the central bay. Each cottage is two stories high. The east-facing elevation has three 2-light casement windows on the first floor; the left-hand two have glazing bars while the right-hand one is 20th century. The ground floor has a similar window arrangement with a plain 20th-century porch in front of each cottage. Number 4 extends at right angles to the south end of numbers 1 and 3. It is colourwashed plaster with a pantile roof and has two bays and two stories. Its south-facing elevation shows two 2-light casements on the first floor and a 3-light casement on the ground floor, along with a doorway under a pent roof porch. An external red brick chimney stack is located to the right of the ground floor casement. Number 5 is at a right angle to the southeastern corner of number 4 and is also colourwashed plaster with a pantile roof and two stories of 20th-century casement windows. The buildings are included on the list for their group value and because they are physically attached to the other buildings.
