Description

No. 105 High Street is a house dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, originally timber-framed. It was refronted in the 19th century and partially refenestrated in the 20th century. The front is roughcast, topped with 20th-century cement tiles, and features two brick chimneystacks. The building has one storey and attics, with three windows. There are two lean-to dormers with casements, one of which has a sliding sash. The ground floor includes three 20th-century metal casements with horizontal glazing bars and two plank doors. At the rear, there is a gabled outshot and a flat-roofed extension added in the 20th century. The house has a three-bay plan with a cellar at the rear and a dairy on the right side, which has no access to the space above. The dairy features a brick-paved floor with a central drainage channel and visible wall flaming on a brick plinth. The central room contains a chamfered spine beam and a plank door, while the end room has a spine beam and a four-panelled door. The first floor showcases a frame with jowled corner posts and curved braces, original floorboards in the end room, a plank door to a cupboard, and remains of wattle and daub in the walls. The roof over the accessible two bays has an upper kingpost truss, purlins, and substantial rafters.
