Description

Lower Grange is a house dating from the mid-19th century. It is built of brick with colour-washed plaster render, and has a slate roof. The house has an irregular plan, with a left-hand block set slightly back; this block features a wooden balustraded terrace aligned with the central section of the house. The central section has three sash windows to the first floor and two sash windows set in slightly projecting bays to the ground floor, with a door having a moulded surround in between. A gabled section in the centre has a slightly projecting two-storey bay with a single sash window on each floor, and a door to the left. The right-hand block has two two-storey slightly projecting bays, with a single sash window on each floor. All the sash windows have glazing bars. The eaves have cut brackets, and the gables are finished with wavy-edged pierced bargeboards and drop finials. Two adjoining parallel wings extend to the rear. The east wing has sash windows with glazing bars and a lean-to porch to the left. The west wing has three first-floor casements and a ground-floor lean-to with a slate roof, with two sash windows with glazing bars flanking an arched entrance.
