Description
The stone socketed base of a medieval standing cross is located in the north-east corner of the churchyard of the parish Church of St Denys in Little Barford. This cross base is made from a single piece of roughly dressed limestone and is octagonal in shape, measuring approximately 570-590mm in diameter. It features a square socket hole in the center of the top that is about 230mm across. The base stands approximately 350mm high, with the top edge chamfered on all sides. The socket itself is approximately 150mm deep. It is unclear if the cross base is resting on a buried plinth, as soil obscures the bottom on several sides.
