Description

The Twin Lodges and connecting archway were built in 1811 by John Wing of Bedford. They consist of a pair of lodges located on either side of a formal arch. The lodges are constructed from ashlar stone and feature hipped roofs made of Welsh slate. Each lodge has three sash windows set between plain pilasters, topped with a cornice band and a parapet. The tall, rounded entrance archway includes impost bands, a keystone, and plain flanking pilasters. Above the pilasters, there is a simplified entablature that breaks forward, leading to a blocking course with three sections that also break forward, the central section adorned with a cherub reclining on a scroll.
