Description
Hinwick Lodge is a house dating from 1770, with alterations and additions made in the late 19th century and very early 20th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and features an old clay tile roof with stone gable coping. The original building has an L-shaped plan, with a wing of two parallel gables added to the southeast end in the 19th century. This wing is cement rendered but otherwise matches the style of the original structure.
The house is two storeys with attics. The front (northeast) elevation includes three gabled dormers. On the first floor, there are two sash windows in the 19th-century wing and two 3-light casement windows with glazing bars in the 18th-century section. The ground floor also has two sash windows in the 19th-century wing. At the turn of the century, a flat-roofed extension was added in the center, featuring a moulded parapet and cornice. This extension has a large 3-light casement window with a high-level transom, surrounded by ironstone and with ironstone drip moulding. To the right of this window is a tall staircase window, likely added at the same time, and further right is another 3-light casement with glazing bars.
At the rear, the windows follow a similar pattern, with sashes in the 19th-century wing and casements in the 18th-century sections, the sashes having slightly cambered heads. The southwest elevation of the 18th-century rear wing features a 19th-century pointed arched window with glazing bars. To the southeast, there is a bridge leading to the farm buildings, which is also made of coursed limestone rubble and has a clay tile roof. The attic includes one gabled dormer on the southwest elevation and two on the northwest elevation, while the ground floor has an open archway with an ironstone surround and keystone.
