Description
The Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin is a Grade I listed building located on Wootton Church Road. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and primarily dates from the 14th century, featuring very high nave arcades. The top of the tower, along with the large four-light aisle windows, is from the 15th century. The tower is topped with a recessed lead spire. The west bays of the nave that surround the tower were added in the early 19th century. Inside the chancel, there are two notable memorial tablets dedicated to Sir Humphrey Monouxt, who died in 1685, and to Philip Monoust, who died in 1707. These tablets are topped with open scrolly pediments and feature an urn.
