Description

Two houses, now commercial premises, were built in the 17th and 18th centuries, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The buildings are constructed of rendered brick, with some original timber framing remaining visible, and have a plain tile roof and brick stacks. They are two storeys high, with a 2+2 bay arrangement, the right-hand bays being wider. Number 8, on the left, has a shop front with a part-glazed door, flanked by flinted pilasters, a fascia board, a cornice, and shaped brackets. Above this, on the first floor, are hooded four-pane sashes in flush wooden architraves. A large truncated stack projects from the rear roof pitch on the right. The right-hand section of the building has a shop front similar to number 8, with a decorative metal grille above the window. A central part-glazed four-panel door is set within a reveal, alongside a large window. The first floor windows are sashes with glazing bars in flush wooden architraves, with a stack at the right end. The rear of the building shows some exposed timber framing at the left end, along with various windows with glazing bars. Modern brick additions are present at the centre and on the right, and are not considered to be of special interest. The right-hand section of the interior retains some 17th-century timber framing. Surviving 19th-century features include wall tiles, fireplaces, doors, and cupboards. The shop front of number 10 incorporates a shutter to the grille. This property possesses group value from its context.
