Description
The Midland Bank, located at 31 Church Street, was built around 1860-1870 in the Italianate style. This two-storey building is constructed of red brick with stone dressings. It features a modillion eaves cornice and a stone band with an egg and dart cornice. The ground floor has rusticated quoins and two pairs of three-light windows, along with one single window with a segmental head. All windows have stone surrounds with moulded shoulders and no glazing bars. There is a band between the storeys. The ground floor also includes four round-headed windows with rusticated heads and keystones, which contain glazing bars. To the right, there is a doorway framed by a rectangular moulded surround with a cornice supported by consoles, accessed by four steps. A section that is slightly set back to the left has rusticated quoins and a band between the storeys, along with a carved oval plaque above a small window.
