Description

The Church of St Peter is a parish church dating to the late 18th century, with extensions added in 1861 and the 1970s. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a tile roof. The church comprises a west tower, nave, chancel, and a north vestry, with an entrance located under the west tower.

The three-stage west tower is marked by horizontal stone bands and a moulded stone cornice topped with a pyramidal roof. The belfry features semi-circular headed openings with stone architraves, and the first stage has circular windows on each side. The west door is framed by a moulded architrave and is fitted with a 19th-century ledged and boarded door. The nave, with a stone plinth and moulded stone cornice, contains two windows, each with a semi-circular head, pilastered architraves, and a keystone. The chancel was extended in 1861, and also features a moulded stone cornice and two semi-circular headed windows with pilastered architraves and keystones.

Inside, a wall memorial to Anne Hill, who died in 1804, is located on the north wall of the nave, and is attributed to Flaxman.
