Description

Farnham House and the former barn adjoining to the north are a house and barn built around 1660, with alterations made around 1900. The structure is made of squared limestone and has a stone slate roof. It stands two storeys high with an attic and features three bays. There are two moulded drip courses, and the windows are rebated and chamfered with mullions; the left side has a four-light window, while the right side has a three-light window. The central window on the first floor consists of two lights. The attic is illuminated by three-light windows with hoods, set within gables that have a rusticated oval below each apex. The door in the middle bay has a moulded surround from around 1900, featuring a Tudor arch and a hood with lozenge stops, replacing a timber doorcase from around 1800 seen in an old photograph. The gables are coped and have chimneys, with the left-hand chimney featuring diagonal caps adorned with friezes carved with lozenges.

Adjoining to the right is a former barn, now a restaurant, which is one storey with an attic. It has three windows with plain reveals, the two on the left having keyed segmental heads. Above these is a dormer. The right-hand return wall, facing north, has two timber canted bay windows with glazing bars, with a doorway between them. The wide doorway to the right is now blocked and glazed. There is a dormer on the left side, and the wall features triangular ventilation holes. To the right, a lower section of the building has two timber canted bay windows and another dormer, with a doorway featuring a Tudor-arched head situated between the windows.
