Description
Prospect House and School House is a house, now divided into two houses, built around 1820 with later 19th century additions to the rear and minor 20th century alterations. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond and features hipped slate roofs behind a parapet at the facade, along with brick chimneystacks. It is a two-storey structure with a set-back wing that is part of the late 20th century conversion.
The garden elevation has three bays. The ground floor features a central entrance with a later part-glazed moulded door and a semi-circular portico supported by slender Tuscan columns. This entrance is flanked by semi-circular bay windows that contain 4-over-4 and 6-over-6 paned sashes, separated by Tuscan pilasters. On the first floor, there are 8-over-8 paned sashes set in moulded architraves with cills supported by brackets, with the central window adorned with a semi-circular wrought iron balustrade. A moulded stucco eaves cornice runs below the parapet along the front elevation. To the right, there is an additional set-back bay with similar windows on both the ground and first floors. Further to the right is a later 19th century wing that has two casements with overlights on each floor, dentilled eaves, a hipped slate roof, and an end chimneystack. The rear elevation of the original range features a central stair window under a rounded arch and sash windows with horns on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
