Description
Leicester Tower, located to the west of Abbey Manor House, was built around 1842 and is constructed of coursed freestone. This octagonal tower rises in five stages to a height of approximately 50 feet. It features an overhanging embattled parapet supported by corbel brackets adorned with grotesque heads at the corners. Each face of the tower has a pointed arched lancet window in a plain surround, with the upper stage windows consisting of two lights, some of which still have leaded lights. On the west side, there is a pointed arched doorway with a stone tablet above it that reads, "This tower erected in the year 1842 to the memory of Simon de Montfort, Earl of Leicester, the father and founder of the British House of Commons who was slain in the Battle of Evesham in the year 1265." The tower is situated on a wooded slope above the Worcester Road.
