Description

Top Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates from the late 16th century, with extensions added in 1649 and the mid-18th century, along with some alterations from the mid-20th century. The building is constructed of coursed lias rubble and ashlar, topped with a roof of Cotswold stone and machine tiles. The original 16th-century section is aligned northwest to southeast, while the 18th-century addition runs to the north, and there is a 17th-century wing to the southwest that features a lateral stack and an attached brewhouse at the southern corner.

The southwest front of the farmhouse has a gabled brewhouse that projects to the right, which includes a small casement window. To the left of the brewhouse, the 16th-century portion is a single storey with an attic, illuminated by a dormer window. The ground floor features two two-light casements flanking an entrance, which is covered by a lean-to tiled canopy from the 20th century and has a 16th-century moulded timber lintel. The 17th-century gabled range projects to the left and is two storeys high, with an attic lit by a two-light stone mullioned window above a square casement on the ground floor. The date is incised above the attic window. The extreme left section is the 18th-century part, which is also two storeys with a gable-lit attic and a blind first floor. The entrance has a 20th-century stable door.

Inside, the 17th-century section features moulded stone surrounds to the fireplaces and moulded ceiling beams.
