Description
Orchard Cottage is a cottage dating from the 16th or 17th century, which was extended in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features a mix of painted blue lias stone and painted brick, topped with a plain tile roof. The original section, located at the north end, is 1½ stories tall and has an end wall stack. It has a one-room plan with a massive timber-framed internal south wall and a chamfered spine beam. There are half-dormers on each side, a door on the west side, and a window on the east side at ground level. Attached to the south is a two-storey brick range from the 19th century, which has modern windows and brick dentilled eaves. This section contains a large beam and a joisted floor in the south end room, which may be re-used or encased. Additionally, there is a modern extension on the west side.
