Description

This is an 18th-century barn with a dovecot attached at the east end, dating approximately to 1700 and the 18th century. The barn is timber-framed and later clad in red brick. The dovecot, also dating to approximately 1700, is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings. It has a roof of mixed stone tile and plain tile, with ashlar quoins, a stone-coped east gable with a finial, and two small stone-framed windows with cornice strips on the south side. An external stone stair leads to a first-floor door on the east gable, and there is a triple stone mullioned window. The barn is attached to a brick-clad structure on the west side, which incorporates some timber-framing and has a corrugated iron roof, half-hipped at the west gable. The barn’s interior features collar and tie-beam trusses with angle struts, and a central entry. The building was formerly known as Top Farm. A stone open shed is not considered to be of architectural or historical significance.
