Description

This is a late 17th-century house with a pair of early 19th-century houses attached to the south. The building is constructed of blue lias stone, with plain tile roofs. "Rome" and "The Cottage" form a T-shaped house, although the north cross-wing was largely rebuilt in the 19th century using red brick. A brick chimney stands on a stone base at the south end of the main range, and a ridge stack is present on the cross-wing. The main range features two modern first-floor casement windows, two ground-floor doors, and a 19th-century casement window in an original opening that has been lowered. The gable end of the north cross-wing exhibits brick windows with cambered heads, consisting of three lights to the ground and first floors, and two lights to the attic. A single original wood cross-mullion window with an iron opening light is found at the rear of the main range. "Greystones" is a double-fronted house with two first-floor casements, two ground-floor casements, and a central door, all with cambered brick heads. “Weavers Cottage” has two first-floor casements, a ground-floor door, and a ground-floor window. These two cottages are included in the listing as they contribute to the group value of the property.
