Description
The archway to the south of the remains of the west wall of the north transept of the Abbey dates from the late 13th century. It serves as the entrance arch to the Abbey Chapter House and features vaulted twin niches on either side. The arch orders display two rows of mutilated figures, with one row standing and the other seated.
This archway is part of a group that includes the Public Library, nos. 6 and 6A, nos. 7 and 8, and Walker Hall, as well as Abbot Reginald's Gateway, The Old Vicarage, Church of St Lawrence, Church of All Saints, The Bell Tower, Abbot Reginald's Wall, the Porter's Lodge, the remains of the west wall of the north transept of the Abbey, and other notable structures in the Market Place and Merstow Green.
