Description
Upper Court is a house built around 1760, with alterations made around 1800 and in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and features a plain tiled hipped roof with brick stacks on the east side of both the west and east wings, although some stacks have been demolished. The building has an H-plan layout and consists of two storeys, a cellar, and an attic with dormers, all highlighted by a chamfered eaves cornice.
The south front elevation is arranged in a 2:3:2 bay pattern. All windows are 12-pane sashes. The central three bays include two ground floor and three first floor windows, along with three hipped dormers that have 2-light casements. The central entrance features a moulded cornice, an eared moulded architrave, panelled double doors, and a transom light with traceried glazing bars. The west wing contains two windows on both the ground and first floors, as well as a hipped-roofed dormer with a 2-light casement. The east wing has an apsidal projection added around 1800, which has a roof slightly lower than the main roof. This wing includes a modillion string course between the main storeys and three windows on both storeys. The first floor windows of both wings and the ground floor window of the apsidal wing have semi-circular heads with traceried glazing bars. The central windows on both floors of the apsidal wing feature moulded architraves, imposts, and moulded keyblocks.
Inside, the front ground floor room of the west wing retains some re-used 17th century panelling.
