Description

No. 7 is a house that has been converted into offices, with an attached gate, railings, and wall. It was built between 1710 and 1740, with later additions and alterations. The building features stucco over brick and has a hipped roof covered with renewed tiles, along with a rear stack. The cast-iron railings and stone wall complement the structure.

The house is three storeys high, plus a basement and attics, with a symmetrical façade that has one window on the left, three in the middle, and one on the right at the first floor. It has a chamfered plinth and bands at the first and second floors. The central section of the building projects slightly forward, and it has a renewed eaves cornice and blocking course. The windows are 6/6 sashes throughout, with taller windows on the ground floor, except for the central first-floor window, which is an 8/8 sash. All windows are set in plain reveals with sills. The attic features two dormers with fixed 4-pane lights, while the basement has renewed windows.

The central entrance consists of three steps leading up to a six-panel door with raised and fielded panels, an overlight, and gothick glazing bars. The doorcase is adorned with plain pilasters and a hood supported by acanthus brackets.

Inside, the building retains original joinery, including panelled shutters on some windows. The subsidiary features include railings on low walls flanking the door; the railings on the left are renewed, while those on the right have bars with S-finials and urn finials on the standards. There is also a gate leading to the basement.

All the listed buildings in College Yard contribute to a cohesive group and enhance the setting of the nearby Cathedral.
