Description

This is a house, now used as offices, dating from around 1800, with subsequent additions and alterations. It is constructed of reddish-brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with stone sills and a stuccoed doorcase. The roof is covered in plain tiles, featuring tall end stacks with oversailing courses and decorative pots. Cast-iron basement covers are also present.

The property is three storeys high and has four windows on the first floor. The ground and first floors have 6/6 sash windows; the second floor has 3/3 sash windows. All the windows are set in plain reveals with sills, and have flat arches formed with gauged brick. Two box dormers with 3/3 sashes are visible in the attic.

The main entrance is positioned off-centre to the right, consisting of three steps leading to a six-raised-and-fielded-panel door. This is accompanied by a frieze and a fanlight with gothic glazing bars, plain reveals, and imposts. The doorcase features pilasters and plain corbel brackets, along with a frieze and moulded cornice.

The basement has two 6/6 sash windows with thick glazing bars, along with cast-iron basement covers that have scrolled sides, a third blocked opening, and a cast-iron shoe scraper.

Inside, original joinery remains, including panelled shutters and plasterwork. The listed buildings of College Yard contribute to a cohesive grouping and provide a setting for the nearby cathedral.
