Description

This is a pair of semi-detached houses, numbers 24 and 25, built around 1830 to 1840. Number 24 adjoins the Vicarage to the east. The houses are constructed of brick with painted stucco dressings, and have a slate roof which is hipped at the west end and has two sections for the eastern end. Four brick stacks rise from the roof, two along the party wall between the houses and two on the east gable. These stacks feature oversailing details and decorative pots.

The houses have a double-depth plan and an asymmetrical design. The main entrance to number 24 is on the front elevation, while the entrance to number 25 is on the west return. Single-storey service wings are located at the rear of the properties.

The buildings are three stories high, including a cellar. The left side of number 24 has two first-floor windows with 8/8 sashes, and two second-floor windows with 3/3 sashes. All windows are set in plain reveals with flat, gauged brick arches and sills. A 20th-century canted bay window on the right ground floor has a transom and mullion window, and a hipped slate roof extending over a five-panel door with multi-pane glazing at the top, a raised and fielded centre panel, and flush-beaded bottom panels. The entrance to number 25, on the west return, is a five-panel door featuring raised and fielded top panels, flush-beaded bottom panels, panelled reveals, a fluted architrave, and a petal-shaped fanlight. The interior has not been inspected.

An iron gate and cast-iron posts, made by a local foundry, form a side entrance to number 25.
