Description
No. 37 St Nicholas Street is a house that has been converted into a shop. It likely dates from the 17th century and incorporates part of the medieval city walls in its cellar. The building has undergone various additions and alterations, including a ground floor shop front that was added around 1900.
The structure features a timber frame with whitewashed roughcast and a glazed tile plinth at the shop front, topped by a plain tile roof. At the rear, there is a pinkish-brown narrow-brick stack with an oversailing course and pots. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has two first-floor windows.
On the ground floor, there is a glazed shop front set on a plinth, with a canted entrance to the left that includes a part-glazed door. Above the door and shop windows are leaded overlights. The first floor has two 2/2 horned sash windows in flush frames, each with ovolo-moulded surrounds and sills. An ovolo-moulded eaves band runs along the top. The attic features a gabled roof dormer with casement windows. Inside, the ground floor has a boxed cross beam.
