Description

The Hollies is originally a pair of semi-detached houses, dating from the 1830s and 1840s, which have been converted into a single office. A later extension was added to the west return before 1886. The building is constructed of red brick with stone and stucco dressings, and has a two-span slate roof with parapeted gables. The east elevation is rendered. There are two party-wall stacks with overhanging details and decorative pots. The west wing has a hipped slate roof and a stack finished in the same style.

The original plan was double-depth, with side entrances, though access is now via a small, single-storey wing on the east return. The main house has three storeys and a basement, with six windows on the first floor. Stone detailing includes a cornice, blocking course and porch. The windows are 6/6 sashes, except on the first floor where they are 3/3 sashes. They are set in plain reveals with stucco sills and flat, gauged brick arches.

The main entrance is set back on the right-hand side and features a four-panel door, with the lower panels flush-beaded and the upper panels glazed, along with scrolled cast-iron external grilles. A radial fanlight sits above the door, and the Doric-style porch has a decorative ceramic tiled floor. A balcony above the porch has vase balusters. The later wing, which is two storeys high, has a tripartite window on both the ground and first floors, with 6/6 sashes flanked by 2/2 sashes separated by brick piers. Two and three-storey service ranges extend to the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
