Description
Cedar Court is a large house, dating from the late 18th century, that was later used as a doctor’s surgery. The house is constructed of red brick with stone dressings, and has a 2-span hipped slate roof largely hidden behind parapets to the front and end elevations. A stack with oversailing detail and decorative pots is present on the left return. Lead flat roofs cover the flanking wings. The layout is double-depth and double-fronted, with a central hall and single-storey wings to the left and right returns, creating a T-plan on the ground floor. The house has three storeys and a cellar.
Architectural details include stone sills and a moulded eaves cornice. The ground- and first-floor windows are 8/8 sash windows within near-flush frames, all set under flat, gauged brick arches and with sills. The entrance features a 6-panel door with raised and fielded upper panels, panelled reveals, a traceried fanlight, and a Doric-style pilaster doorcase with an open pediment.
The interior has been significantly altered, particularly on the ground floor, and the staircase has been removed.
