Description
The remains of an ancient sandstone wall are located abutting No. 6 on the west side. This wall is likely part of a monastic building rather than a defensive structure and is believed to date from the 13th century, with several later phases of stone replacement and repairs in brickwork, including 20th-century concrete lintels for low-level openings and plain clay weather capping. The wall is primarily constructed of red sandstone and runs approximately north to south. The current exposed elevation on the west side was originally the internal face of the wall. The masonry is rough-dressed with a punch finish and laid in courses. The wall measures approximately 9 meters long, 4.5 meters high, and 0.8 meters thick. There are four former window openings at first-floor level and two at ground level, aligned with the pair above. Information regarding the date and probable origins of the wall has been provided by Mr. Chris Guy, an archaeologist associated with Worcester Cathedral.
