Description
The Octagonal Lodge, originally a toll house and now a shop, was built in 1814 and has undergone later alterations, including window updates from the 1960s to 1970s. Designed by architect John Collingwood, the building features painted render over brick, a slate roof, and a red brick central stack with an oversailing course and pots. It is octagonal in shape and consists of two storeys.
The entrance has two part-glazed doors with an overlight situated between horizontal-pane windows and a frieze. Above, there are two 4-light casements and two single lights at the angles. The left side has a round-arched opening on imposts that is now blocked, with a similar multi-pane casement. The right side and rear have similar features. The building has a frieze and wide eaves, with 2-light casements on the first floor at the rear. Most of the windows are metal. The interior has not been inspected.
