Description

The White Lion is a public house dating to around 1840. It is constructed of brick, with the front painted, and has a shallow-pitched slate roof with three ridge stacks and a rear chimney. The building is two storeys high, with a dentilled eaves cornice. It has seven bays, the seventh being slightly recessed. The windows are primarily 16-pane sashes, with three ground floor canted bay windows, one ground floor window with a cambered head, and seven first-floor windows, one of which is blind. A flat, moulded canopy on consoles shelters the main entrance in the fifth bay, with a panelled door and transom light. There is a second entrance between the second and third bays, with similar detail but no transom light. A large double doorway with a cambered head is located in the first bay, and a smaller double doorway in the seventh bay. The interior has not been inspected. A probable former stable or coach house adjoins the left gable end, featuring two levels and a single bay. It includes large double doors and a shuttered loft opening in its front elevation.
