Description

The farmhouse, dating from the 17th century (as noted in the Victoria County History), has a rear wing added in the early 19th century. It’s timber framed with whitewashed brick infill, and has a brick plinth. The roof is tiled, with a brick ridge stack. The farmhouse is arranged as a four-unit lobby entry plan and stands two storeys with an attic, featuring a four-window front. A plank front door is set within a moulded wood surround and hood supported on shaped brackets. There are 19th-century casement windows with glazing bars, an oriel window with a four-pane sash, and four roof dormers. On the right return side, there are jowled posts and a truncated external brick stack. The left return side was refaced in brick during the mid-20th century. A roughcast 19th-century range on the right has a segmental bay window with a 24-pane sash, pilaster strips, and a fascia. A late 19th-century oriel window sits above. The rear of the farmhouse reveals exposed framing and has a brick wing. The entrance in the re-entrant angle features a flat, six-panelled, part-glazed door with a hood on shaped brackets. A canted bay window is also present. The interior includes exposed framing, broad-chamfered cross beams, a blocked inglenook fireplace, an early 19th-century dog-leg staircase with a moulded string, old plank doors, and a single-storey, timber-framed outbuilding extending from the rear at a right angle, as described in the Victoria County History of Warwickshire, Volume III, page 87.
