Description
The Hollies and The Mill House is a house that has been divided into three dwellings. It has origins dating back to the 16th century and was remodelled in the mid-18th century, with further alterations and additions made in the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries. The building is partly timber-framed but is completely encased and remodelled in painted brick, featuring plain and machine-tiled roofs. It has an H-plan layout, with a central range aligned north-west to south-east, which includes a large rear brick and sandstone chimney that is now enclosed by a parallel range from the 18th century.
The north-west cross-wing has two stacks on its north-west side, while the south-east wing has a central chimney with a ridge stack and a single-bay south-east wing. The house is two storeys high with an attic and has a dentilled eaves cornice. The main north-east elevation displays irregular fenestration with all windows being 20th-century casements, some in original openings. The central part features two 3-light windows on the ground floor, one of which is large and has a cambered head. On the first floor, there is a 2-light and a 3-light window, both with cambered heads, along with a single-light window and a rectangular light inserted into an opening with a cambered head. The cross-wing gable ends have 3-light windows on both the ground and first floors, as well as attic lights, all with cambered heads. The south-east wing has a single-light window on the ground floor and a 20th-century door with a transom light to the right of the central part.
The interior of The Mill House was inspected and features a large fireplace and a significant amount of original timber at ground floor level, with the upper floors also said to reveal some original framing. There are 19th and 20th-century additions to the side elevations. The Mill House is prominently situated beside Beoley Mill.
