Description
This barn, located approximately 300 metres north-east of Mitre Farmhouse, is possibly from the 16th century. It features a cruck frame with timber-framed walls set on a stone plinth, now with brick infill and weatherboarding, topped with a corrugated iron roof. The south wall includes a lean-to addition to the right of the cart entrance and a door to the left. Some of the framing is exposed in square panels.
Inside, the barn has five bays. The west gable wall showcases a tie-beam truss with jowled principal posts. The first truss to the east has truncated crucks with principals that rise from a high tie-beam to the apex. This truss was formerly closed and has empty mortices for studs and wattle holes. The second cruck truss, located to the west of the threshing floor, features a tie-beam, collar, and out-riders, with the tops of the blades butted against the diagonally-set ridge. The truss to the east of the threshing floor lacks a tie-beam. The fourth truss resembles the second but was formerly closed and includes a king-strut above the tie-beam. The east gable wall also contains a cruck truss.
