Description

The Old Almshouse is a house that was previously used as almshouses. It likely dates from the 15th century, with additions made in the late 16th century. The building was restored in the early 1960s. It features a combination of timber-framing and brick, topped with a tile roof, and stands two storeys high.

The south front includes a cross-wing on the left with exposed timber framing. On the ground floor, there are two windows, and between the tie-beam and collar, there are two additional windows with V-struts above the collar. To the right is the main range, which has been re-fronted with brick and is located on the site of the original hall. The ground floor of this section has four windows, while the first floor has three. A 20th-century open porch covers the door and the window to its right. There are chimneys located to the right of the cross-wing and on the right-hand gable.

At the rear of the building, there are three gables. The right-hand gable is the rear wall of the cross-wing and is framed in square panels with V-struts above the collar. The other two gables are likely late 16th-century additions; the left-hand one is cased in brick, while the middle one features framing similar to that of the cross-wing.

Inside, the hall contains an inglenook and an inserted ceiling with chamfered beams. The framing of the rear wall of the hall is exposed, showcasing large curved braces. The two end cruck trusses and a central jointed cruck are reportedly visible on the first floor.
