Description

Three houses, comprising numbers 42, 43 and 44, date to the 17th century, with number 44 partly occupying a circa late 18th or early 19th century extension. The construction is timber-framing and brick, with a tile roof. The houses are framed in square panels and consist of a main range with a jettied cross-wing projecting to the right. The main range has four bays, with the ground floor underbuilt in brick. Above, two rows of square panels are exposed, featuring a pair of straight braces to the wall-plate. There are doors between the first and second bays and in the fourth bay. The cross-wing is a single bay and features a moulded jetty bressummer and tie-beam; the roof truss includes two vertical struts between the tie-beam and collar. Chimneys are located to the right of the second bay and along the right-hand wall of the cross-wing. Number 44 occupies the rear of the cross-wing and includes a circa late 18th or early 19th century painted brick range to the south, with two storeys and two bays. Sashes have been replaced with plastic windows, and a central doorway has a plank door.
