Description

This is a farmhouse, dating to the late 16th century, with alterations and additions from the 19th century. The construction combines timber framing with sections of plastered walls and replacement brick walling. The roof is covered in tiles and slate, with a large brick ridge stack featuring tiled offsets. The farmhouse comprises a main range of three framed bays, two two-bay cross-wings, and an additional bay extending south, along with a single-bay dairy wing with its own separate roof. The building is two storeys high with an attic. The timber framing is not visible externally. A 19th-century lean-to extension runs across the front of the main range and the left cross-wing, featuring slate roofing and including two sash windows with small side panes, a half-glazed door flanked by a large and small casement, a 20th-century casement in the right cross-wing, two first-floor casements in the main range, a first-floor casement, and attic lights in the cross-wing gable ends. A half-glazed lean-to porch is located in the angle between the lean-to extension and the dairy wing, with a first-floor casement above. The front of the dairy wing has a lean-to extension with two casements and a planked door, as well as a wood-mullioned first-floor window. Internally, the roof features raking strut trusses and single, trenched purlins, with some sections of purlin removed. The main beams are stop-chamfered with run-out stops. There’s a 19th-century outshut on the north side and a two-storey extension to the rear right.
