Description

Pipers End Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th to 17th century, with later additions. The original section is timber-framed with red brick panels, while the east side addition is made of blue lias stone. The earlier part of the building is in an L shape, two storeys high, and likely constructed in two phases. It features two ridge stacks, one on each range. The north range has exposed timber framing on the north wall and west gable, with three first-floor windows and one modern ground-floor window on the north wall. The west end has a three-light ground-floor window and a two-light window above it. Inside, there are heavy queen strut trusses. On the south side, there is a lean-to and a cross range that is gabled at the south end. The ground floor is made of blue lias stone with a window that has a cambered head, and the gable has 19th-century brick with a blocked window. There is one dormer on the west side. Attached to the east is a tall blue lias stone range, probably from the 18th century, featuring a low-pitched modern tile roof and a 19th-century stack at the east end. This section has one range of 19th-century casement windows in the red brick part of the wall and one gabled dormer, with a door to the left. Some timber framing is visible in the west gable.
