Description

Chambers Court is a small country house built around 1850, constructed from blue lias squared rubble with ashlar dressings and plain tile roofs, designed in the Jacobean style. The house has two storeys and an attic, featuring a five-window main front with a projecting centre that has a gabled roof and corner finials. The first floor includes a three-light mullion and transom window, while the entrance boasts a Jacobean style arched doorway with carved spandrels and a round arched inner doorway. On either side of the entrance are two-light windows with mullions and transoms, complete with hood-moulds on both floors. A sill band runs along the first floor, and a heavily corbelled parapet with a balustrade is interrupted by two stone dormers with shouldered gables. At the north end, there is a cluster of four diagonal stone chimney stacks. The south garden front features three irregular gables: the first has a three-light first floor mullion and transom window, the second includes a projecting two-storey canted bay, and the third is simpler with two-light windows on both the ground and first floors. Attached to the house is a stone, timber, and glass lean-to conservatory supported by stone piers with finials. At the rear, there is a lower L-shaped service wing that includes a bellcote and a large square stone turret. The house was built for E G Stone.
