Description
This chest tomb, dated around 1630, is located about 18 yards south of the chancel of the Church of St John the Baptist. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a narrow design with half-columns set back at the corners, as well as two additional columns on each side. Above the columns is a frieze, and between them are recessed round-headed panels. The capping is slightly hipped and is likely a later addition, possibly re-used from another tomb. At the west end, there is a partly illegible inscription within one of the panels, and the date "1630" is inscribed in the spandrels. This tomb is noted for its unusual early design and bold detailing.
