Description
The Rotunda, located about half a mile north-east of Hagley Hall, is a grade II* listed structure built in 1747 by John Pitt of Encombe. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a two-stepped circular base that supports eight Ionic columns, which have an entasis. The lower half of each column is vermiculated. Above the columns is an entablature with a dentilled cornice, and the domical roof, of which little remains, crowns the structure. The Rotunda is positioned at the head of a valley, facing the north-east elevation of Hagley Hall. Originally, a cascade and a Palladian bridge, also designed by Pitt, were situated in this valley.
