Description
No. 87 High Street is a shop with a former dwelling above, built around 1835-1840, with a later 19th-century rear wing. The building is constructed of Flemish bond red brick and features a clay plain tile roof with gabled ends and projecting eaves. There is a brick gable-ended stack with a heightened shaft. The structure has a 1-bay plan with the later rear wing.
The exterior consists of three storeys and a one-bay southeast front. It has 12 and 16-pane sash windows with stone cills and moulded cornice hoods supported by console brackets. The shop front is Victorian, featuring a console on the right end of the fascia and a 20th-century shop window. The later 19th-century gabled brick wing at the rear has 4-pane sash windows. Inside, there is simple 19th-century joinery on the first and second floors.
