Description

Oxley House is a house, now converted into flats, dating from around 1820. It features a stucco exterior with ashlar dressings and a hipped slate roof with stucco stacks. The building has a double-depth plan with a central stairhall and is two storeys high, presenting a symmetrical four-window facade. The centre of the building projects forward under a pediment, flanked by end piers, and includes a first-floor sill course, a top frieze, and a cornice.

On the ground floor, there are tripartite windows with 15-pane horned sashes, while the first floor has 12-pane horned sashes. The entrance boasts a projecting tetrastyle-in-antis Ionic porch with paired half-glazed doors and flanking four-pane sashes. The left side of the building features a central conservatory with three sashes topped by upper rectangular fanlights, flanked by piers with round-headed lights. The ends of the conservatory have finials with rich fluting and scrolls, and a glazed dome, with two-window ranges on the ends. The right side and rear of the house have sashed windows, a rear lean-to porch, and several stacks with square pots.

Inside, the hall is stone-paved and includes a cantilevered stair with a balcony featuring enriched iron balusters, a wreathed handrail, and moulded nosing on the treads. There are also six fielded-panel doors.
