Description
The viaduct on the Stour Valley Line, built between 1849 and 1851, was designed by Robert Stephenson and William Baker for the London and North Western Railway. It is constructed from blue brick with ashlar dressings and features 22 segmental arches, each with ashlar impost bands and a platt band above. The stone-coped brick parapet adds to its architectural detail. Notably, the third arch from the south is a skew arch that spans the Birmingham Canal Navigation. This viaduct was built to connect Wolverhampton High Level Station with the main line at Bushbury, making it an impressive and early example of railway engineering.
