Description

This is a terrace of four houses located on Summerfield Road, Wolverhampton, built around 1850. The houses are constructed with stuccoed brickwork and have a parapeted roof. They stand three storeys high, with an eight-window arrangement across the front. A sill band runs along the first and second floors, and a decorative cornice with modillions sits above, terminating in a parapet. The ground floor features canted bay windows with cornices, incorporating late 19th-century plate glass sashes. The upper floors have windows with eared architraves and four-pane horned sashes, although the windows in number 1 have been replaced in the 20th century. Each house has a round-headed entrance with pilasters, archivolts, and keystones, containing a recessed overlight and a half-glazed door. The original return sides feature architraved windows. Two truncated lateral stacks and one cross-axial stack were present originally; only one cross-axial stack remains, featuring square shafts and a decorative cornice. The left return side has architraved windows. The terrace is an example of mid-19th century suburban development in Wolverhampton.
