Description
The Wyrley and Essington Canal Footbridge at Pelsall Junction is a towpath bridge, likely built in the early to mid-19th century. It spans the Wyrley and Essington Canal, which opened in 1797, at its junction with the Cannock Extension Canal, opened in 1863. The bridge is made of cast iron and features brick abutments with some sandstone dressings. It has a single segmental arch, and both side girders are cast in one piece, designed with a lattice-work pattern of saltire crosses. The girders are connected by iron plates to create the walkway.
