Description
Little Wyrley Hall is a handsome small mansion that dates from the late 15th century or early 16th century, with the main center front being the earliest part of the building. It features red brick with stone dressings and has two storeys plus an attic. The structure includes two wings placed at right angles, with the portion to the right of the front door dating from the 16th century, while the back or east wing is from the 17th century.
The main block has four later windows and a central porch wing with a pediment and ball-headed finials. The side gables are curved and stepped, also featuring ball-headed finials at the center and sides, along with one gabled dormer. The rear wing has some characteristics of its own but was altered in the late 17th century, showcasing six arched three-light casement windows, a heraldic panel, and four dormers with gabled treatments similar to the main block.
The building is topped with old tiles and has moulded stone eaves, as well as panelled brick and later stuccoed stacks. Inside, there is an excellent 17th-century staircase, exposed timber framing in the earlier part, and good 17th-century panelling along with brass door furniture. The windows contain some interesting heraldic glass. Little Wyrley Hall has been the seat of the Fowkes family and their lineal descendants since about 1590, currently owned by Mrs. E A Wallace.
