Description
The barn at Oak Lodge Farm is a structure dating from the late 17th century, with some later alterations. It features a timber frame set on a brick plinth, with brick nogging and some areas of later weatherboarding. The roof is made of plain clay tiles and has gabled ends. The barn consists of three bays, with a central threshing bay and a midstrey on the west side.
On the east front, there is a cart entrance located to the left of the center, which has renewed plank double doors. The frame to the left of the entrance is three panels tall and four panels wide, while the right side is five panels wide, with the panels filled with red brick that includes ventilation holes. Tension braces are present at either end, and the gable ends are partly covered with weatherboarding.
At the rear on the west side, there is a gabled midstrey in the center, featuring weatherboarding in the gable. To the right, the rails have been replaced with brickwork, and to the left, there is a later brick building attached.
Inside, the barn has jowled wall-posts that support tie-beam trusses, which include diagonal struts to the principals that carry large through-purlins on their backs and a diagonal ridgepiece at the crossed apex. The gable ends have collars and queen struts, and the common rafters are intact. However, the roof of the southern bays has partly collapsed.
